As the end of the year approaches, we like to recap the Ekopak highlights of 2023. It was already an exciting year. We jumped right into 2023 with the announcement of several new projects.
New projects
Ekopak will provide the water treatment installation for NX Filtration‘s new plant in the Netherlands. The Ekopak installation, which will contain NX Filtration’s own membrane modules, will upgrade river and surface water to process water.
In addition, Ekopak France has not been sitting still either. We secured the first major Water-as-a-Service (WaaS) project at Total Energies in Grandpuits, France. Through the WaaS model, Ekopak will relieve the customer of all his water needs for a contract period of 15 years.
World Water Day
March 22 is World Water Day, an important day for us! The need for safe water is still high, especially in Africa where the lack of infrastructure leads to a lack of central supply of clean and safe drinking water. Since 2021, we have been supporting Water.org. On March 22, we proudly donated 5,000 USD to this amazing organization. This donation will give 1,000 people access to safe drinking water!
Acquisition of industry peer Global Water & Energy
In September, we announced the acquisition of Global Water & Energy (GWE), a privately held company headquartered in Bruges, Belgium, with subsidiaries in Europe, Southeast Asia and North America. The company is an expert in solutions for industrial wastewater treatment, water reuse and green energy production. With this acquisition, Ekopak becomes a full solution partner and a world player in water reuse! The Ekopak group now has a total of 230 employees worldwide.
Activities with the E-team
Internally, several activities were scheduled. In March, for example, we celebrated our annual staff party. We got to know our new home town Deinze in a sporty way. We also participated in numerous events such as Antwerp 10 miles, Teamtrophy Deinze, Corporate Cycling Challenge and the Leieloop. Would you also like to join our E-team? First integrated annual report
Did you know that we have been publicly traded company since 2021? In 2022, we published our first annual report. This year we went a step further and immediately opted for an integrated annual report. We delve deeper into exactly how Ekopak creates value financially, environmentally and socially. We highly value sustainability, this is now also fully integrated in our report.
Start construction works on new premises
In 2022, we announced the investment of a new business premises in Deinze. The major structural works started last summer. The new building is a concrete illustration of Ekopak’s vision of sustainability. It includes everything to be completely self-sufficient in terms of energy and water consumption. The building will be occupied in the course of 2024 and early 2025.
Proud sponsor Soudal Quick-Step
If you know Ekopak, you already know by now that we are big cycling fans. This year we were again official shirt sponsor of the Wolfpack (team Soudal Quick-Step). You can admire our logo on the official cycling jerseys and on the drinking bottle. In addition, we are also proud sponsor of the women’s team AG Insurance Soudal Quick-Step. We were able to enjoy the team’s many victories!
2nd Edition Ekopak Cycling Tour
In October we organized the 2nd edition of the Ekopak Cycling Tour. Together with some of our customers, suppliers and some riders of the Soudal Quick-Step Team, we cycled a beautiful route through the Flemish Ardennes. With this event, we also took the opportunity to raise money for the organization Stop Darmkanker. In total, we collected € 2000!
WAAS ASIA
The WaaS business model is proving to be a success. Our international expansion continues with the establishment of WaaS Asia, in partnership with Vyncke NV and Saku Rantanen. Water-as-a-Service Asia will meet the rising demand for sustainable water reuse solutions in Southeast Asia and India.
