With climate change accelerating, water stress is becoming a global crisis. According to Copernicus, 2024 was the hottest year ever recorded worldwide, with severe droughts and extreme heat affecting regions across every continent. It’s clearer than ever: we must treat water as a precious and limited resource.
Below we list some simple tips & tricks you can apply in everyday life. These will help you not only to save water, but also money!
Save water inside
- Take a short shower instead of a bath
- Use the eco-mode on your dishwasher & washing machine, and wash only when you have a full machine
- Avoid leaks in the house by checking your water meter frequently
- Use rainwater for your toilet & washing machine
- Drink tap water, 1 liter of tap water costs less than 1 cent
- Install a water-saving showerhead
- Don’t leave the faucet running when brushing your teeth or washing your hands
- Wash your clothes in cold water, this helps save the colors as well

Save water outside
- Collect and use rainwater for your garden
- Use a watering can instead of a hose
- Water your garden only at sunrise or in the late evening. This prevents the water from evaporating too quickly and damaging the plants.
- Skip washing your car during dry spells. Does your car really need a wash? Use a bucket and sponge. Four 10-liter buckets are usually enough. If you wash your car with a garden hose, you will soon need about 150 liters.
- Inflatable pool? Reuse the water in your garden. Just make sure the water is free from harmful chemicals before watering your plants.
- Don’t waste water on paths and patios
