NX Filtration celebrates opening of new factory with water treatment plant from Ekopak

Last Wednesday, NX Filtration celebrated the official opening of their new factory and office building in Hengelo, an important milestone in the company’s growth. The ceremony was festively hosted by Her Majesty Queen Máxima, who performed the official opening.

NX Filtration produces innovative membrane modules that can effectively filter contaminants such as PFAS, pharmaceutical residues, dyes, as well as nanoplastics, viruses and bacteria from water. In 2021, NX Filtration announced the construction of their new plant in Hengelo, the Netherlands. Ekopak was chosen as the partner for water treatment. Now officially inaugurated, the new plant will support the company’s expansion and significantly increase production capacity.

Process water via Ekopak installation

To make the production process as sustainable as possible, NX Filtration has chosen to use circular water via a self-designed water treatment installation realized by Ekopak. This installation, which contains the membrane modules of NX Filtration itself, produces process water based on water from the nearby Twente canal. NX’s innovative membranes consume significantly less energy and make chemicals unnecessary compared to traditional methods.

“What makes this plant special is that it uses NX Filtration’s own membrane modules, which shows a powerful synergy between the two companies. This innovative system not only helps reduce water consumption, but also takes full advantage of the latest sustainable technologies.” – Pieter Loose, CEO Ekopak

With the new plant, NX Filtration aims not only at sustainable water management, but also at complete self-sufficiency. In addition to more than 1,350 solar panels and heat recovery systems, the plant is the first in the Netherlands to use heat exchange with a neighboring data center.
